Marius Roosendaal

Group Design Director

As Group Design Director, Marius is a lead within the design team and an advocate of our design techniques and philosophy. Ever fascinated by systems, continuous iteration, and experimentation, he develops visual languages across multiple channels. He aims for simplicity with a holistic mindset, collaborating with developers and architects to reinvent and elevate products.

Marius grew up in Amersfoort in central Netherlands and attended the Hogeschool van Utrecht where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering with a minor in Media Technology. Before joining AREA 17, he was lead designer at MediaMonks in Amsterdam, where he lead the design on dozens of award-winning interactive projects for international clients. Additionally, he pursued freelance and personal projects as an artist that gained him worldwide recognition in numerous online magazines and communities.

As a true Dutchman, he loves bold type, biking, and bitterballen. During his time in the Paris studio, he developed a passion for barbecue, making the U.S. the obvious next destination. He enjoys exploring the city, film photography, and Philip K. Dick stories in his spare time. He might even throw in a haiku.
